Thinking Out Loud – Christmas Thoughts

by Maria on December 26, 2013

I almost didn’t realize it was Thursday. Holidays smack dab in the middle of the week will do that to a person. I’m taking part in Amanda’s Thinking Out Loud link up today, filled with my Christmas thoughts.

1. Did you know the Christmas Story home in Cleveland is now a museum?

A Christmas Story is one of my favorite Christmas movies, along with a Very Brady Christmas. Apparently A Christmas Story is a much larger cult classic than I thought. Not only is there a museum but there is also an annual convention.

2. My brother fried brussels sprouts in an attempt to recreate the same dish from The Spread in South Norwalk.

Now, I haven’t tried the sprouts from The Spread but his copy cat was delicious! Guess I have to check out the original to confirm that his attempt was indeed a success.

3. Cannoli nachos from DiMare’s should be a sin. Rated XXX.

Devilishly good. My nephew and niece were eating it by the spoonful, no need for the cannoli shell itself.

4. With my upcoming move, I wasn’t able to devote a lot of time to holiday baking, but I did manage to sneak in some Paleo Snickerdoodles from The Paleo Mom.

My parents really liked them, which clearly means they’re a winner!

5. I’ve been quite indulgent this holiday season, more so than in the past. And you know what? I’m okay with that. In fact, it’s motivating me even more to kick some major booty in 2014.

6. I’m terribly sad that this marks the end of holiday movies. I don’t watch Lifetime any other time of year because I frankly find their movies tacky. That all goes out the window come December.

7. Only 4 engagements appeared on my newsfeed over the past few days.

8. I managed to convince my brothers to take a family photo. This is a big deal and only the second time it’s occurred for as long as I can remember.

9. My holiday is not over yet!! I’m using vacation days from work for the rest of the week and catching up with friends, family and doing what I can at the condo so I can finally move in!

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

What was your favorite holiday dessert?

This holiday season was definitely a lot more indulgent for me as well, but can you believe that even with all the baking I did, I didn’t manage to make any snickerdooldles?! They’re my favourite holiday cookie, so I have no idea how that got overlooked. I blame this year’s obsession with molasses and white chocolate/cranberries. Also… I couldn’t help but laugh at your comment on the family picture thing… I don’t have any siblings so it’s usually only me and my parents, but it’s almost impossible for us to all take a picture together — it’s usually only 1 or 2 — because, you know, self-timers are so hard :P

That’s funny about the engagement thing! I actually didn’t see any in my news feed so maybe it’s just a slow year for my friends or they’re all already married!?

My holiday season has been either the same as or a little more indulgent than years’ past; I can’t completely tell if the “little more” thoughts are in my head or truth. I am just trying not to debate it and instead enjoy the holidays. After all once I get home from my vacation they’ll be over for me and any “extra indulging” I’ve been doing will likely disappear!
I knew that A Christmas Story was a cult classic – it has been one in my house for so long – but the convention?! Wow, new levels!
That cannoli nacho dip, oh my goodness I cannot EVEN.
I had 1 engagement pop up – a couple who used to work for me and I scheduled them in the same shift and that’s how they met. I take all credit!

Every Christmas that my sister, brother and I get together we do the annual Christmas photo. I love it…and it’s a hoot to see how much we’ve changed over the years. Some day I should do a slide show that shows us morph into our different sizes and shapes!
My favorite Christmas movie is probably Home Alone. And ANY Christmas cookie will due…but sugar cookies with glistening sugar are my all-time fave!
