One of my favorite movies of all time is Dazed and Confused. I’d watch it on the last day of school for years and on other days too of course. Today I’m referencing it because of the song, “Cherry Bomb” by the Runaways. Such a great song. It’s on the soundtrack which I used to rock to in my car, with my CD adapter plugged into the cassette player, obviously. For those of you too young to understand, it looked like this:
You see, my 1992 green Chevy Beretta just didn’t have a CD option. This provided an easy solution to my problems and I think I only paid $5.99 for it with my employee discount at Sam Goody.
Alright, alright, alright…(last reference, I swear)
My friends at Trader Joe’s started carrying these beautiful dried bing cherries with NO additional sweeteners. So soft and delicious!
I knew these would make a great addition to my dried fruit stash. They also gave me a great idea for a new ball combo. Since they were met with rave reviews from my friends, they are now ready for mass consumption by you.
Cherry Bomb Date Balls
- 2/3 cup cashews
- 1/2 cup macadamia nuts
- 2/3 cup dates (I used 6 LARGE Medjool dates)
- 1/2 cup bing cherries
- 2 Tbsp cocoa (I used Hershey’s Extra Dark)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- cracked sea salt (use your judgement)
- Combine the cashews and macadamia nuts in your blender. (I use the Ninja) Blend until they are crushed but not a powder.
- Add the remaining ingredients until well combined.
- Roll into balls. Your hands will get messy. Store in the refrigerator and share with your gym friends.
Makes about 24 balls.
The large medjool dates I used are NO joke. Look at the size of them!
I get them from Nuts.com which has a huge assortment of nuts, fruits, snacks, herbs, and then some. Seriously, check them out. You will be obsessed.
